Pesta on the Stairs - Theodor Kittelsen Black Death Print
Painting by Theodor Kittelsen, 1900.
This print shows Pesta on a dark wooden staircase in one of Kittelsen’s Black Death images.
In Norwegian folklore, Pesta is a spirit of the plague, linked with the Black Death that passed through Norway in the 14th century. In Kittelsen’s work, she appears as a haunting figure moving through houses and villages, bringing illness and death. Because of that, this image is closely tied to plague history, dark folklore, and the bleak mood of old northern legend.
A striking poster for wall decor, libraries, dark interiors, and lovers of Norwegian folklore and plague history.
