Charon - in Greek mythology the carrier of souls of the dead across the river Styx (in another version — through Acheron) in Hades (the underworld the dead). Portrayed a gloomy old man in rags. Charon carried dead souls in the waters of the underground rivers in return for a fee (navlon) one Obol (for the burial rite of the deceased under the tongue).
