Still Life with Skull and Writing Quill - Baroque Vanitas Print

Still Life with a Skull and a Writing Quill by Pieter Claesz, 1628.

This dark still life shows a human skull resting on books beside a writing quill, overturned glass, and dying oil lamp. These simple objects turn the scene into a reminder of the shortness of human life and the passing of worldly things.

The painting belongs naturally to the Vanitas and Memento Mori tradition and has the quiet, dark atmosphere of a 17th-century Dutch still life.
