A reproduction of an ancient map by an anonymous author, filled with gloomy symbolism: Latin phrases inscribed on a buffoon's cap, staff and shoulder strap complain about the vanity of the world and the stupidity of those who love it. On the staff there is the phrase “vanity of vanities, all is vanity.” The quote from Ecclesiastes at the bottom of the map sums up the message of the map: “The number of fools is infinite.”
The world is a stupid place - the main message of this drawing. The unpleasant truth that this map tells is that the world is a gloomy, irrational and dangerous place, and that life on it is disgusting, cruel and short.
